Jazz for Humanity was created in 2007 by a group of students from Collège Louis-Riel High School’s Ubuntu Committee. It has since become an entity on its own, run by university students. In partnership with Ubuntu Edmonton, the project raises funds to improve the lives of widows and orphans living in Kimironko (Kigali) who suffered through the 1994 Rwandan Genocide, while furthering art in Manitoba.Jazz for Humanity provides inspired artists with the opportunity to use their talent to change their world. They do so not only by raising funds for Ubuntu’s cause, but also by finding creative ways to share important global issues with a diverse audience.
This year, Jazz for Humanity has grown to include the Children of the World Art Auction, which will feature works by visual artists working in various media. The funds raised by the Children of the World Art Auction will be used to benefit the youth of Kimironko.
Ubuntu Collège Louis-Riel: Ubuntu Collège Louis-Riel is a non-profit humanitarian organization comprised of Winnipeg university and high school students. The organization, in partnership with Ubuntu Edmonton, raises funds to improve the lives of widows and orphans who suffered through the 1994 Rwandan Genocide. Ubuntu Collège Louis-Riel also provides a welcoming environment for the many African immigrants that join Collège Louis-Riel’s student body every year. It is an opportunity for them to share their culture, while working with new friends to make a difference in the world.
